About the Institute
Coal Ash Institute of India [CAII] is a not-for-profit registered professional society having its registration No. S/78004. It was registered under the West Bengal Society Registration Act 1961 in September 1994. The Institute was founded with the objective of acting as a knowledge centre for protecting the society and environment from pollution emanating from coal combustion products originating in thermal power plants and various process industries.
Who we are
According to the statistics of Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Government of India, the installed capacity of coal-fired thermal power generation is 187, 253 MW as on 30th September, 2016, which is 61 percent of the total power generation capacity of 306,358 MW in India. Further, according to the plans laid down by the Government of India, the installed capacity of coal-based thermal power is likely to increase by about 70,000 MW by 2022.
